Mickey Finn + Cuong Vu - Gagarin! [314-24]
One of the most energetic bands on the Italian scene puts out its second release for El Gallo Rojo. This time they feature Cuong Vu, fine trumpeter who played with the likes of Dave Douglas, Pat Metheny, Chris Speed and Laurie Anderson. One of the tracks feature the intense and perturbing voice of Carla Bozulich.
This record pays its tribute to the Soviet cosmonaut and aviator Jurij Alekseevič Gagarin, the first man in space.
Gallo & The Roosters + Gary Lucas - The Exploding Note Theory [314-25]
Another awaited comeback: Danilo Gallo's Roosters. Together with the guitar legend Gary Lucas - Captain Beefheart and Jeff Buckley's fellow - they give life to a vibrant and irresistible sonic mix.
Evocative noir atmospheres, garage rock strikes and western explosions: Gallo's new tunes unravel in a seductive trip.
Playground - Periferiche sospese [314-26]
Dimitri Sillato's debut album. He was already co-leader of Tirodarco. This time the Romagnolo pianist and violinist leads an ensemble based on the exchange of roles and instruments, while a terse lyricism pervades the whole session.
Piero Bittolo Bon Jump The Shark! [314-27]
Piero, multi-instrumentalist from Venice, makes his debut album, too. He puts his compositions to use in a quintet which puts together some of the best musicians in the Italian jazz and improvised music scene.
His writing, clear and inexorable, moves between explosive sonic tempests and sudden spins.
Libero Motu - Off-Site Meetings [314-28]
Giulio Corini's ensemble comes back extended to a sextet. Giulio's concise and sketch-like writing gives itself a chamber music tinge, and the natural balance between the band instrumentalists (two saxophone players, one guitarist, one bassist and two drummers) is highlighted by both the tunes and the totally improvised tracks.
Headless Cat - Blind Tail [314-29]
Francesco Bigoni, Antonio Borghini e Federico Scettri's co-led trio gets into the studio for its first work, after one year's research on method and repertoire. Headless Cat investigates the possibility of a real synthesis between improvisation (seen as instantaneous composition) and pre-ordered material, trying to keep away from habits and routines.

El Gallo Rojo Records
El Gallo Rojo Records is a container without stylistic labels, a union of musicians with a natural bent for experimentation and linguistic crosswising who, around a record label, exchange ideas, suggestions, and listening and performance experiences. El Gallo Rojo is also a visual project, coordinated by Massimiliano Sorrentini and Sara Meneghini, in keeping with that same art of transverse poetry which characterizes the music, so that the aspect of graphic imagery really does accompany the sound, and is not merely an accessory. The visual artists and the written/spoken word will also have their own space in the Punto Rojo, a kind of parallel collection which will gather special limited editions, hybrid forms of sound, texts and images, but also collections of photographs, comic strips, dawings, short films and narrative.El Gallo Rojo is a collective subject who chooses independent productions and supports them through careful distribution, which passes via Internet and freely chooses its own outlets nationally.
