314-41| Simone Massaron | The Big Empty |
An austere, beautiful cd. Massaron’s relation to jazz is somewhere between a young Derek Bailey fighting his way out, and an older Derek Bailey making his peace with what’s left. In any case, Massaron has learned the lessons of the improvisers, but still clearly cares about song/memory/composition. He plays with both chops - although never in a showoffy way - and enormous delicacy, both of which are on display in this naked, mostly unadorned, mostly acoustic guitar cd. Great Stuff.
