314-1| Meshuge Klezmer Band | Treyf 1929 |
Some Klezmorim on this side and the other side of the ocean engage in a challenge with time and space on the words of a fascinating and meshuge tale. The meandering, urgent, yet majestic gait of the Klezmer moves, by play of the imagination, from present-day Verona to New York in 1929. The result is a seductive, sepia-toned about-turn from whose mesh emerges the voice of the poet-singer Samuel Malavsky, the trumpet of Frank London (Klezmatics, Hasidic New Wave), David Harris's trombone and the guitar of Pete Fitzpatrick (Naftule's Dream, Shirim).
Treyf 1929 is the third work of the only non-American band to be included by David Krakauer in his Tzadik compilation "Music from the Winery".

Musica Jazz - aprile 2006

"Want a quick definition of post-modernism or primitive-futurism? Just listen to Brandwein’s “Oy Tate S’iz Gut”. Before sliding in a contrafact of “Caravan”, Ziggy Ellman-like freyleich trumpet lines face off against JB-like funky electric bass beats. Then, possibly through contact with the Ellington-Tizol line the brass turns to Bubber Miley influenced Jungle style plunger tones"

"This music, old klezmer, does make me feel good, I just want to get up and dance"
